What Are the Top Software Trends of 2020?
Now that 2020 has finally arrived, so has a brand new decade brimming with opportunity. With exciting new developments coming for the world of tech, it begs the question, what are the top software trends for 2020?
It’s likely that we’ll see a lot of new software emerge this year, as well as a further refinement of existing technologies that will transform the way we use software. Let’s dive right in and discuss.
Intelligent Process Automation
Intelligent Process Automation (IPA) uses A.I. to automate business processes while making decisions that would normally require human cognition to complete.
It can simplify processes massively, allowing businesses to monitor and predict processes and key performance indicators that can enable them to drive further value.
Intelligent Process Automation can help businesses save major time and resources as it takes over human tasks, but that’s not to say that it will replace humans in the workplace. Human workers will always be needed, and the goal of Intelligent Process Automation isn’t to replace human workers, simply make processes easier.
A.I. Security
With automation technology becoming more advanced, it also opens up new vulnerabilities that must be protected against attacks. This means that 2020 will likely bring with it a stronger focus on A.I. security measures to protect systems automatically.
These A.I. systems will need to cover a range of bases in order to protect from increasingly advanced cyberattacks. Security will need to be developed for A.I.-powered systems in order to secure valuable AI training data and machine learning models. It must be able to anticipate and defend against potential attacks by understanding its own vulnerabilities.
Using A.I. for security doesn’t only cover data protection. For example, we have experience using deep learning software to protect against real-life security vulnerabilities by triggering an alarm whenever a breach has been detected on a physical parameter.
Human Augmentation
As technology becomes more integral to our everyday lives, 2020 will likely bring with it further development of human augmentation. This is software and tech that can be used to improve the physical and cognitive aspects of the human experience.
Many of us are already benefiting from human augmentation – but might not even realize it. Wearable technology such as smartwatches helps us to monitor our fitness and some can even be used to alert users who might be at risk of a heart attack. In the workplace, companies are now also starting to use similar technology to improve worker safety in workplaces such as construction sites and mines.
But it’s not just wearable tech that will aid with human augmentation software. CRISPR (clustered, regularly interspaced, short palindromic repeats) technology is a form of gene editing that could be used to edit genes and treat conditions such as immune deficiencies. However, this does carry a range of ethical and cultural implications with it that means it might not be widely available any time soon.
Software Trends of 2020
Throughout the 2010s, we saw such huge advancements in technology, and the 2020s will be no different. These are just a handful of examples of the biggest software technology trends we can expect to see coming this year, and will likely see develop further throughout the coming decade.
